The paravane is a most valuable invention* consisting of a lor pcdo-ishaped body fitted with devices to ensure that it keeps a straight course and maintains a certain depth. Paravanes are used in pairs, towed on cither side of the ship. The tow line is fitted with mcchan ism that cuts through the mooring line of any anchored mine it enc;i\ntcs. File mine; then flrats to -tii., surface and is exploded by rifle 01* gun-fiie.
