PIG COUNCIL
ANNUAL MEETING GOOD REPRESENTATION OF CLUBS The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty District Fig Council was held last week in Whakatane, when delegates l'rom twenty-five clubs attended. The clubs represented were from ill parts of the Council's district, which extends from Coromandel peninsular to Cape Run away and inland to Taupo. Mr D. S. Ross (Te Puke), president of the Council, was in the chair, and Mr H. M. Peirson (Pig Industry Extension Officer) at Wellington, was present. Three members of the management committee retired and a ballot resulted in the election of Messrs W. Black (Paengaroa), G. D. Beattie (Opotiki), and N. W. Carter (Taneatua) who was re-elected. A motion of some interest waa tabled when it was resolved to ask the National Pig Industry Council to justify the increase in the price of barley for pig feed from 3s 2d to 3s Id per bushel after the former price had been definitely stated as fixed. Another motion of importance was the decision to instruct the delegate to the National Council to seek an increase in the levy, which at present stands at 4d j)er pig. The management committee, in addition to those quoted as having been elected, comprises Messrs W. F. Parsons, R. W. Strugnell, R. W. Dunning, L. H. BroAvn (Native Department), and G. H. Ross (N.Z. Pig Breeders' Association). The secretary is Mr G. R. Kent.
