During the Boer War, when New Zealand's population stood at 770.000 6,500 men enlisted for service in South Africa. In the Great War, out of a population of approximately IVi millions, 120,000 were called up for service. In the present war, from a population slightly exceeding 1% millions, 33,000 have so far enlisted.
