WAIMANA NOTES
GARDENING CIRCLE (Own Correspondent) The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou gardening circle of the Women's Institute, was held at the home of Mrs W. McConnell Jnr., Waimana, last week. There was a good attendance of members, and two new members were welcomed. Mrs G. Stansbury and Mrs L. Ducker An interesting article was read on the time to cut certain flowers for decorative purposes, and the growing of sweet peas and green peas was discussed, and how to treat plants for mildew. After a dainty tea had been served by Mrs A. K. Bell and Mrs Eagle, members enjoyed a walk round the garden which was neat and trim. The day's competitions were as folloAvs; —Best flower: Mrs Stevenson (Californian Poppy) 1, Mrs Ducker (Rose) 2, Mrs Hughes (Zinnia) 3; Best vegetable: Mrs Ducker (Tomato) 1, Mrs Eagle (Carrot) 2, Mrs Mitchell (Leek) 3. Bowl, of Autumn foliage and berries: Mrs Mitchell 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs Hughes 3. Vase of Chrysanthemums: Mrs Mitchell 1, Mrs Hughes 2, Mrs Mitchell 3.
