EXPORT BEEF

CHILLER QUALITY MAINTAINED LOOKINC. TO THE FUTURE! Since Hie commencement of the war, no chilled hoe I' lias been imported into the United Kingdom, but ns New Zealand's chilled beef production bad grown rapidly prior to tin: war, and the overseas market showed threat potentialities, tbe New Zealand Meat Producers Hoard considers it most essential to maintain and even improve present-day quality of obi Tier beef production. With tbis object in view. tbe Board is continuing to offer substantial prizes in tbe various districts for cattle suitable for obi 1 led beef. It is hoped where possible that A. and P. Societies will arrange a field day when the cattle are judged in order to demonstrate to farmers tbe type of animal required. To meet the requirements of tbe British Government, all our chiller quality cattle are now being shipped as frozen beef. It may be mentioned, however, that in tbe discussions between tbe New Zealand Government and tbe British authorities, the New Zealand Meat Producers Board especially arranged through the New Zealand Government, that the special quality of four chiller beef should be recognised in the price offered, even though the beef was frozen instead of being shipped as chilled.
