LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers Avas held in Knox Hall on Friday afternoon. This day was chosen to suit the Auckland Pro vincial President, Mrs HarA'ey Turner, and the Provincial Secretary, Mrs K. Utting, who were visiting the district. There was a good attendance of members and friends. Mrs SulliA r an opened the meeting and Avelcomed the President 1 and Secretary to Avhose visit the members had looked fonvard. Mrs Turner thanked the members and friends for the AA'armtli of their Avelcome; and then gaA'e an account of the history of the League from its foundation by Lady Alice Ferguson to date. She and Mrs Utting had just returned from the conference held in the Centennial Exhibition Buildings in Wellington. There Avere present at that conference over GOOO Avho, one and all had been enthusiastic OA r er the ideals of the League. All AA'ere determined to make it a liA'ing vital thing in the liA r cs of the Avomen of Ncav Zealand. She urged all those present to be loyal, first to their homes; by so doing they AA r oald be loyal to their Kli.g and country. Ifuirs Utting then spoke on th* AA'ork of the Provincial Committees, and mentioned the great Avork Mis« M. E. Richmond had done for Hie League and its ideals. She had been Editor of the League's Magazine since its inception, and noAA r had retired., at the age of 80 —a woman of great intellect and culture—and her last Avord to them AA r as to carrv on tl£ great Avork. Mrs Good then sang tAVo solos "Vespers' ? and "Who's Com'ng Out With Me" very charmingly. Afternoon tea and an informal chat brought the afternoon to •<« close: all present joining in the Nnional Anthem.
