RANGITAIKI UNION MEETS
FOUR SENIOR TEAMS NOMINATED .. A meeting of the Rangitaiki Rugby Union was held at Matata on Wednesday y with Mr F. J. Bm't in the chair. The secretary reported that Pukekohe had been communi-* cated with in regard to a match during the season. It was decidcd that the grant for school footballs from the major Union be used to buy footballs for distribution to schools instead of handing on the money for the purpose, as was done last year, the Rangiw taiki sub-Union to make up any deficit. In discussing the Primary Schools Tournament* to be helcl in Whakatane this year, the Union decided to give all the support in its power to ensure the success of the tourney. Starting time for senior matches Was fixed at 2.15 p.m. for the beginning of the season, the time to be altered later in the season to suit dairying conditions. Starting time for junior matches was fixed at 1.30 p.m. for the present. Teams Nominated. Senior teams nominated were: Te Teko,, Edgecumbe, Awakeri, Matata. Juniors: Te Teko, Edgecumbe,, Otakiri and Western Drain. It was decided to hold a meeting after the first day's play to arrange a Third Grade competition,, when more definite information regarding players would be available. Three rounds for both seniors and juniors will be played. The draw is: First Round, May 11th (Seniors), Te Teko v Awakeri, at Te Teko; Matata v Edgecumbe, at Matata. Juniors: Western Drain v Te Teko at Western Drain; Edgecumbe v Ota at Edgecumbe. Second Round (May 18th) Edgecumbe v Te Teko, at Edgecumbe: Awakeri v Matata, at Awakeri. Juniors; Otakiri v Western Drain, at Otakiri; Te Teko v Edgecumbe, at Te Teko. Third Round (May 25t~h) Senio,rs: Awakeri v Edgecumbe, at Awakeri; Te Teko v Matata, at Te Teko. Juniors: Otakiri v Te Teko, at Otakiri; Edgecumbe v Western Draiiij at Edgecumbe. It was decided to ask all teams to put their grounds in order in time for the opening Saturday and ro urge Clubs to augment their funds by taking collections at matches where no admission charge is made. Duff Cup matches commence at the end of the first round. Selectors Appointed. Selectors were appointed as follows: — Seniors: Messrs F. J. Burt and T. Anderson. Juniors: Messrs P. Villis, R. Harty and O. Lord. Tlie next meeting of the Rangitaiki Sub-Union is to be held at Te Teko, May 14t)h, at 8 p.m. A transfer was granted to L. Gardiner from Te Teko to Edgecumbe. GAMES FOR SATURDAY WHAKATANE STAR v POROPORO PAROA MEET RUATOIvI The draw for the first round in the Whakatane Union, which will be played on Saturday, May 4th, is as follows: — Seniors: Whakatane Star v Poroporo, at Whakatane, 2.43 p.m. Paroa v Ruatoki,, at Wlnkatane, 2.45 p.m. Waimana a bye. Juniors: Ruatoki v Poroporo, at Ruatoki, 1.30 p.m. Whakatane Star v Waimana, at Waimana, 1.30 p.m. Taneatua a bye. Should any club not be able to raise a team, it is asked to advis.e the secretary, Mr F. Peebles, immediately.
