Newspaper Standards. The high standard maintained by the newspaper press in New Zealand was the subject of a complimentary reference by Mr D. R. Grenfell, visiting British Labour M.P., at a mayoral reception held in his honour at the Auckland Town Hall. "I am glad to see you have a free press in this country," said Mr Grenfell. "It is interesting to see both sides of a question presented, and, speaking as one privileged to be here during the past three weeks, I was pleased to see that you have a press that presents its material fairly." Mr Grenfell, referring to some recent happenings, said he found -t good to be able to open his paper and read both sides. To him that seemed a great thing to have. He was farther impressed by the clean and healthy nature of the material oublished in the New Zealand pap-i ers.
