FOOTBALL

SATURDAY'S MATCH WHAKATANE STAR v TANEAjTUA There was a very small attendance at the Domain on Saturday to witness the friendly game, and the first of the season, between the newlyformed Whakatane Star Club and Taneatua. As it was a trial game, and a run for all players, it was not expected that the respective teams would display anything like a combination and the two half-hour spells were not productive of real football. The Taneatua side was a last minute com bination, and in the circumstances acquitted itself well in holding a team with the talent of Whakatane Star. Both sides were showing the effects of the run before the game concluded but two or three weeks should see all players doing justice to themselves. During the second spell, G. Os-1 wald, Whakatane Star's centre, sustained an injury to the ankle and it is probable that he will be off the scene for some time. There was no score and the teams were:— x Whakatane Star: R. Rowson, M. Armstrong, G. Oswald, D. Stewart, G. Jackson, L. Raynor, Linden, Mor peth, Wilson, Dejinchy, Robson, List, Francis, Kernot and Henry. Taneatua: Sisam, Coutts, Papua, Miles, Schmidt, A. Sisam,, Sykes, Goddard, R. Goddard, Moore, Walker, Hillman, May, Dodd and Fitchett.
