YOUNG FARMERS' CLUB

BDGECUMBE BRANCH ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual general meeting of the Edgecumbe Branch of the Y.F.C. was held recently, when there was a fair attendance presided, over by the chairman, Mr G. Murray. In presenting the fourth annual report, he mentioned that the Club had had a fairly successful year, the present membership being 25. The usual monthly meetings were held, with an average attendance of 11, while committee meetings have been held also, and we are indebted to various members, for the use of their homes, he said. "The financial position of the club is satisfactory, showing a credit balance sheet of £4 19s 6d ending 31st March, 1940. "We have again received much assistance from our advisory members, and I would like to record here our appreciation for the .help and advice thit they have given us in innumerable ways, especially to Mr C. R. Taylor, of the Department of Agriculture, Whakatane. "The debating activities of the club have again been greatly assisted by Mr lan Gow, who has helped us, not only in the preparation of the subjects, but on several occasions members have enjoyed the use of his home for the purpose. The club competed in the Y.F.C. debating competition, and was successful in the debate against Taneatua, but lost to Waimana. "Several members assisted at the local A. and P. Association Show* in the capacity of junior stewards, and the club has offered similar assistance to the Winter Show Association." The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows:— Mr W. A. McCracken (President); Messrs F. J. Reynolds, lan Gow, F. E. Briggs, and C. Ilelf (Advisory Presidents); Mr A. McCracken (Secretary); Mr J. Jainieson (Chairman); Mr W. Johns (Treasurer); and Mr G. J. Murray (Auditor). The meeting closed with supper and a vote of thanks accorded to the chairman.
