OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE
The annual meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association serves as a startling reminder jOf the permanency of the lasting bond of comradeship which was the outcome of the war years. Twenty-two years 1 after the five years struggle, old comrades-in-arms still meet to discuss old times, still grasp hands in the undying spirit of fellowship and still raise their glasses m silence, to the memory of 'the fallen.' How long this splendic* bond of brotherhood will continue is hard to hazard, but it would seem that the traditions and ideals of. the present Association, will be carried on by a new and younger generation of soldiers who will keep them green long after the close of the present war, and long after the time when the veterans of to-day have passed on to join their comrades 01 the'silent toast.'
