COMMUNISM

BISHOP CHERRINGTON'S OPINION In his monthly letter in the Diocesan Magazine, Bishop Cherrington refers to Russia and Communism. He says that all help given and promised did not enable Finland to escape a forced peace. The war had revealed Russia in its true colours and shown that Soviet was another way of spelling Nazi and that Russia had given up Communism (so-called) and become a rather worse land grabber than its imperialistic days. "We are glad the Labour Party in England is entirely on the side of Finland and Ave think anybody calling himself a Communist had better keep quiet for a bit," continues the bishop. "After all, Communism is only an economic system and has no connection with the New Testament, though many ignor ant people think it has. Communism needs a very large number of disinterested and thoroughly unselfish people to make it in any way a success. Where are we to find such people?" he concludes.
