BOBBY CALVES
RAN GITAIKI PLAINS POOL TURNING DOWN CRITICISM The annual meeting of the Rangitaiki Plains Bobby Calf Pool was held in the Edgeeumbe Presbyterian Hall on Wednesday evening last. Mr G. R. Wilson presided over a large attendance. The New Zealand Pig Marketing Association, which has marketed the pool's products during the year, was represented by Mr Hastings. In his report the Chairman referred to the flood of criticism which had been levelled at the poo] administration in the early part of the season. This criticism, he said, together Avith the large attendance at the meeting was indicative o? the keen interest taken by suppliers in this particular branch of dairy farm activities. A full and frank discussion took place and the Chairman was called on to answer a wide range of questions. His determination to leave no avoidable misapprehension in the minds of suppliers met with obvious approval. In nominating the outgoing com- [ mittee for re-election Mr W. J. Murray referred in terms of appreciation to the results of the year's work. The motion was seconded by Mr F. J. Reynolds, who, in doing so* expressed his personal gratitude. There were no further nominations and the motion was carried with acclamation. The balance sheet reveals that 16,415 calves were handled during the season. The average weight was 60.71bs the net return at farm gate being 3/0% per head. Adoption of the pooling system, together with an increased degree of co-operation between farmers and carriers, has resulted,, among other advantages, in a considerable saving in the cost of collection which in the plains area now stands at 9d per head.
