VALEDICTORY

I MR AND MRS H. E. CUCKSEY PRESENTATION BY STAFF Sinccrc regret at the coming departure of Mr and Mrs H. E. Cucksey and their family was shown when the staff of the Commercial Hotel tendered them a farewell dinner on Thursday evening. Mr Cueksey is taking over the license of the Prince Arthur Hotel, Auckland, and plans to leave Whakatane at the end of the week. Occasion w 7 as taken to present the guests with a handsome weather glass, and in making the presentation Mr 11. T. .Toll, who presided, stressed that it carried with it the staff's best wishes. Mr Cueksey thanked his staff for their present. He appreciated their work in the past and he stressed the fact that he has never asked anyone to do anything he would not do himself. Thanks were also expressed by Mrs Cueksey and by Miss D. A. Cueksey and Mr H. A. fcucksey. Tributes were paid by members of the staff who included Mcsdames Francis, Hollister, Misses Ailsa Wilson, Rose Laloli, D. Sykes, N. Dodunski, Messrs E. Bryenton, R. Bathe, D. Vincent, T. Quinn and R. Wright. RUGBY UNION'S TRIBUTE FAREWELL GATHERING The Management Committee of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union, at a function in the Commercial Hotel, paid tributes to Mr Cueksey's services to Whakatane lootball. Mr Cueksey was a vice-presi-dent of the Union. The president, Mr W. Henderson, said that Mr Cucksey's absence would be keenly felt. He had been active in his support of Rugby football and the esteem in which he was held would be marked to some extent by the gold miniaure football, which he was happy to present Other speakers were Messrs F. Peebles, J. White, C. Walker, J. McNeil, I. Tunui, T. Gee and E. Nelson. Mr Cueksey thanked the Management Committee for the gift and the various speakers for their laudatory remarks. It had been a pleasure, he said, to be associated witli such a great body of sportsmen.
