MAORI RECRUITS
TEMPORARY OFFICER APPOINTED Mr W. M. Clark of Paroat has been appointed to the position of recruiting officer for Maori volunteers in the Paroa and Te Teko areas during the period of indisposition of Mr J. Pdini.
MASCOT PRESENTED
MAORI BATTALION'S ACQUISITION A novel note was struck at Rawene at the send off to Captain Harding Leaf* of the Maori Battalion, Avlien he accepted the presentation of a real live mascot in the shape of a Great Dane dog, aged tj\vo years, and standing three feet high, on behalf of the 28th Maori Battalion going overseas with the Second Echelon. The presentation was made by Mr L. S. Donnelley, chairman of the Rawene Town Board, on behalf of Mr and Mrs R. Watkins, of Rawene. Captain Leaf, in accepting the gift, said that the mascot would be much appreciated by his comrades. "There is plenty of food in the Army and this dog Tiger will' get his rations even if we have to go without," he said.
