MIRACULOUS ESCAPE
FALL DOWN QUARRY •f SAFETY ROPE BREAKS t Abrasions and a broken toe were ' the only injuries sustained by Mr 4 " jßradon Roper, a Public Works Department employee,- when he fell 85 feet in a direct line and rolled a further 200 feet after his safety rope had broken at the metal quarry ■on the Whakatane-Taneatua road. Mr Roper was directing work at the time and hanging over the edge of the quarry on the safety rope. The rope broke and he plunged -down, but to his workmates' ama/.ement he stood up immediately his fall Avas stopped. Heaped up debris :at the foot of the quarry broke the fall to some extent.
