Mr Roper was directing work at the time and hanging over the edge of the quarry on the safety rope. The rope broke and he plunged -down, but to his workmates' ama/.ement he stood up immediately his fall Avas stopped. Heaped up debris :at the foot of the quarry broke the fall to some extent.
