WELFARE APPEAL
FIGHTING SERVICES BENEFIT COLLECTION TO-MORROW A letter was received by the Borough Council from the Secretary of the Fighting Services Welfare Appeal. saying that the latter organisers Avere naturally disappointed that the Council was not taking part, and detailing the application of funds collected. The Mayor said that the letter conveyed more information than that previously received by the Council. The I.adies Committee was very keen on the appeal and was taking up a collection on Thursday. Expressing pleasure at the idea of a collection for so worthy a cause, Cr Otley, who Avas absent from the meeting last month Avhen the matter -was first discussed, said the fighting services appreciated the wonderful Avork of the organisations Avhich Avould receive the money collected and the cause Avas* one Avhich the Council should support. It Avas stated that the majority of councillors Avould liaA r e been keen, at the last meeting had they known the ultimate destination of the funds. The Mayor said there hf»cl been a misconception but the matter was now clear. The collection to-morrow world be held in conjunction Avith the Plunket appeal.
