CATTLE FAIR
WHAKATANE AUTUMN EVENT Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held their Autumn i Cattle Fair at Whakatane on Mon- ■ day 11th Marcli with a record yarding of all classes of station cattle. ■ The advertised numbers were greatly exceeded and the yards taxed to full capacity necessitating a double yarding. An outstanding feature was the quality of the yarding and the good condition the cattle were in. 7'here avas a large representative attendance with buyers coming from Auckland, Waikato and Thames districts. Competition was exceedingly keen on all classes of fat cattle which were yarded in large numbers with prices realised in advance of late rates. Grown steers of all classes showing quality and. condition were also exceedingly keenly sort after and sold at an improved rate. Young cattle were, not so keenly sort "after but soldi at rates comparable with other districts. Practically a total clearance - was affected under the hammer, and the fixture taken on the whole, exceeded the vendors expectations., Principal sales:—Account H. GOOD YARDINGS AT HAMILTON The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co. Ltd. report:— Sheep: At Frankton yards on Tues day a full yarding of all classes of fat sheep Avas penned, with the quality, especially in the case of wether mutton, inferior to that of last week's yarding, values declining accordingly. A good entry of fat ewes sold freely with.no alteration in values. Fat lambs maintained late rates. Cattle: A large penning of all classes with both ox and cow beef slightly easier. A pen of heavy bullocks from Messrs J. and K. Rennie, Taupiri, realised £12 16s, 3 pen.s from Mr John Scott, Newstead, made £12 5s to £12 10s. A consignment of medium prime Polled Angus cows and heifers from Te Rapa realised £7 ?0s to £7 19s, Avhilst prime Shorthorn heifers sold on account of Mr John Scott, Newstead, sold from £8 9s t/o £10 7s. A liarge entry of fat calves with values on a par with recent sales. A heavy yard ing of boner cattlie Avas absorbed at slightly lower rates. Store cattle came forward, in fairly good numbers. the eiitry comprising principally of young cattle which sold at in buyers" Pigs: An-, other heavy entry of fat pigs, competition for baconers and porkers Avas very keen at A'alues in advance of last week's quotations. A pen of 5 prime baconers from Mr Milne, Waimai, realised the record price of £4 lis each. Store and AA r eaner pigs Avere easier of sale. Quotations:
