OBITUARY
MR JOHN REARDON The death has occurred of. Mr John Reardon, of Merritt Street. Born in Dannevirke, the late Mr Reardon spent most of his life in Eltham, Taranaki, where his parents still live. Later he shifted to Dargaville, North Auckland, where he spewt some time «*s manager there for the Loan and Mercantile Agency. Transferring to Whakatane in a similar capacity, he made many friends in this town and in the surrounding districts. Some time ago he left employ of the Loan and Mercantile and commenced business on his own as a Stock and Station Agent. As an outstanding athlete, Mr Reardon held !oJ? 1 records and his interest in boxing was sustained until his illness. When ii. Dargaville he promoted and mailivied. a boxing school for the boys town. It was perhapsassociation with football thai Mr Rendon was better known. He commenced his football career at Eltham and continued it when at Dargaville, earning North Auckland representative honours for three seasons. On coming to Whakatane lie turned his interest and experience to advantage for Rangitaiki football generally and Whakatane football in particular. For some lie h'td acted as selector. A popular figure, Mr Reardon .shunned publicity, believing more in doing good by stealth, llis acts of kindness and thoughtfulnoss were many and the town is poorer for his passing. The greatest sympathy will »e felt for Mrs Reardon and the irunily, Mrs J. Tibbett, of Taneatua, and the Misses Marjorie and Dorothy Reardon, of Whakatane. The late Mr Reardon's brothers, Mr Fred Reardon, of Opunake, and Mr Norman Reardon. of Eltham, are at present in Whakatane and another, Mr James Reardon, resides in Auckland.
