WHERE IS THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE?
The commencement of the third month of an important and in all probability an extremely busy year, finds Whakatane still minus its Chamber of Commerce. As far as can, be ascertained there are small prospects of a meeting being called before the Centennial Celebrations, when such a body could have performed invaluable services, and have assisted towards the combination of all sections in one of the finest parades and pageants in the Bay of Plenty. The year 1940 will be one of strain, anxiety and endless appeals. Apart from the welfare of the town a virile body of businessmen could achieve much in assisting towards the final victory which we know must crown our arms. There are a great number in this town eagerly awaiting the move which will resurrect and successfully re-launch the original Chamber of Commerce.

Just 100 ye«u-s ago on Tuesday last the first cow reached Wellington. Hutory doe.: not tell whose cow it was or what were its subsequent adventures, but it may be regarded as the init'alion of a dairying business reeond only in. hn portance to thp meat and wool industry.
Petrol in Demand. With petrol coupons authorised for use during February valueless from midnight on Thursday, motorists who had not exhausted their February allowances took the precautions of using up their remaining coupons. Fetrol was in demand in Whakatane on Friday as many motorists with empty petrol tanks were anxiously awaiting the first of the month so that they could use March coupons.
