THE CONTROL OF RAGWORT
The decision of the County Council to institute proceedings against offending farmers who have continually disregarded the notices to clear the ragwort on their properties will be welcomed by all who appreciate the menace. The unfairness of a conscientious farmer suffering on account of the laxity of his neighbour in this connection is too obvious to need any further amplification, but although most local bodies are extremely loath to prosecute it becomes absolutely necessary at times in order to protect the inteiests of the district. It is this very leniency, which has been responsible in many cases of neglect. The offenders have construed it as weakness on the part of the county authoiity and have therefore continued to ignore the notices served upon them- The matter has now been taken in hand and it is hoped that the firmer policy of the future will lead to a better state of affairs and a fairer deal to the man who keeps his property clean.
