MESSAGE FROM MINISTER APPRECIATION EXPRESSED The following telegram from the Minister in charge of the Police Department, Hon. P* Fraser, was read at the farewell to Constable T. J. Cummings on Thursday evening: I should be glad if at the! farewell to Mr and Mrs T. Cummings you will express my apologies for being unable to attend. Also my strong appreciation of the faithful and efficient service given by Mr Cummings during his 29 years iif charge of Whakatane station — a record surely unique in the Dominion, and enhanced by the confidence evinced in him by both Maori and Pakeha. I send Mr and Mrs Cummings kindest regards and best wishes for a long and happy period of leisure in retirement. P. Fraser.
