Sir, —It appears that by the number of young men that enlisted and were boarded on Saturday that recruiting in the Whakatane area is not quite as brisk as usual. Surely the naval battle in which our own ship took such a gallant part should have some effect on the feelings of the young fellows still eligible, and it is to be hoped that bfijler results will be shown in the future The camps and the training cannot be so bad, when one young man who went into camp with the first echelon and met with an accident in camp, is now fit again and reenlisted. "Let us hope that this Whakatane district will keep up its record of keeping its quota full.. Yours etc., OBSERVER.
