TE AROHA CLUB CHANCES OF BEAU REPAIREI Good fields are listed for the first day of the Te Aroha Jockey Club's annual meeting, to be held at Te Aroha to-morrow and Monday, Neither numerically nor in class is the Herries Memorial Cup field as strong as last year, when the even card was demonstrated by the fact that Golden Sheila, who had won the President's Handicap on the second day of. the Te Rapa meeting but a few days before, was ranked eighth favourite both ways and the each-way favourite Llangollen returned an exceptionally good win dividend. Betting for the meeting will be on the win and place sj'stem. Details of the fields, with a review in each case, are as follows;—' 11.50: RUAKAKA HURDLES Of £300; about l 1 miles Riotous 11.0; General Ruse 10.12; Full of Scotch 10.8; Celtic Lad 10.0; Charcot 9.13; Centaurus 9.7; Glen Abb, King Musk 9.6; Tutor 9.4; Orient Dawn, Sockettes, Aintree, Green Label 9.0.
Riotous is racing into form but can hardly concede weight at the present time to some of those nearer the minimum. General Ruse makes more appeal. Full of Scotch is capable and so is Celtic Lad. The latter, however, seems not to like the course too Avell,, having fallen twice in the last two years. Charcot should be well to the fore,, despite his failure on the second day at Te Rapa. The best of the others may be Centaurus, Glen Abb and Orient Dawn. Likely favourites are General Ruse Charcot Celtic Lad 12.35: WAITOA HANDICAP Sweepstakes of £3 each, with £250 added; G fur. Hunter's Night 9.1; Acreman 8.7: Gazeful 8.7; / Fairfield 8.7; Lady Acushla 8.4; Pleuron 8.3; Kingcraft 7.11; Whenua, Joan Peel. Lady Bam bury, Mercury Bay, Moymell, Rajanya, Te Haka 7.7. It is probable that Hunter's Night may be reserved for the Shaftsbury Handicap, where he comes in on a better scale. Acreman and Lady Acushla are recent winners and otli ers who have proved themselves to be in form are Fairfield. Gazeful, Pleuron, Joan Peel and Te Haka. There will be a strong following for the New Plymouth trained Moymell,, who has much to recommend him on the score of breeding. Support will probably be accorded Joan Peel Moymell Acreman
1.20: JUVENILE HANDICAP Of £300; two year olds; 5 fur Grandora 9.9; Gaj r m'ss 9.3; Dinky Di 8.5; Sir Cameron 8.2; Marshall Hall 7.13; Beau Leon 7,10 Sure Pay 7.8; Radiant Vaals, Ascot Bloom 7.6; Miss Jose, King's Flight 7.5; Mysito 7.3: Lady Bloater, Belle Femme 7.2; Volifox, Sharmin, Lady Vixen 7.0. It is the rule rather than the exception for a good dividend to be returned in the two year o'd sprint at this meeting. Last year Our Jean delighted her supporters and the year before Noitaro put her backers on easy street for the rest of the da\ r . It is probable that the winner this year will be one of the favourites and they are likely to be Gaymiss Sir Cameron Marshall Hall 2.5: HERRIES MEMORIAL CUP Of £1000 and gold cup valued at £50; 1 mile 3 fur. Golden Sheila 9.8; Royevrus 8.8; Beau Repaire 8.6; Royal Appellant 8.6; Kathbella 8.3; Lady Montana 7.11; Krlick 7.3; The Cardinal, Pirate King", Miii'Jaw, Rarotonga, Games 7.0.
Golden Sheila will be racing on her home track and a course on which she has always performed well. to lack of time to race into condition it is improbable that she can concedc a stone to Royevrus and sixteen pounds to Beau Repaire and Royal Appellant. However, those who remember her wonderful finishing effort in this race last year, after receiving a bad check half-May down the straight, will not deny her a chance. Royevrus has a chance to make amends for his recent failures but it is doubtful whether he can hold the speedy Beau Repaire, who will be suited by the turf on this course. The latter, despite his failure over a similar distance at Te Rapa, is already a firm favourite and at the moment appeals as the more likely of these two. Royal Appellant Avon over Ili miles on Monday but his time was slower than that registered by the hacks over the same distance and Avhile he is a distinct possibility, Lady Montana, who ran third to him, appeals more at the amended weights. Kathbella will be having her first race over a middle distance, but she is bred on sound lines and may upset calculations. Of the others, those likely to be prominent arc Mintlaw and The Cardinal. Final gallops may influence public selection but at the pre sent it seems like Beau Repaire Royevrus Kathbella 2.55: SHAFTSBURY HACK HDCP Sweepstakes of £3 each, with £275 added; 6 fur Kenneth Robert 8.13: Pasture 8.5 Hunter's Night 8.3; Right Royal, British Nation, Star Vaal 8.0; Hunto 7.12; Bronze Emerald, Loch Acre Lady Clorane, Mandalay 7.7. Kenneth Robert is good. Pasture and Hunter's Night will be in the money and Right Royal is training on well. Star Vaal will be racing on the old home track but that does not mean that "he will win. Bronze Emerald, Loch Acre and Lady Clorane are possibilities. Support may be accorded
Kenneth Robert Pasture Bronze Emerald 3.40: HOT SPRINGS HANDICAP Of £300; 1 mile Arvakur 9.9; Lady Montana 9.3; Valmint 9.2; Full Hand 9.0; Brabilian 8.7; Silver Quex 8.6; The Dozer 8.5; Gold Vaals 8.11; Grand Gity 8.1; Yogi, Prince Rangi 7.12: Foxsen, Silver Eagle 7.8; Inver, Silber Stick, Aero King 7.7. This is a nightmare field for the investor and to suggest the probable favourites is a shot in the dark. Arvakur may find his weight troublesome over this distance and should be held by Valmint, . Full Hand, Silver Quex, The Dozer, Gold Vaals, Yogi, Silver Stick and Aero King. Anyone picking the winner out of that lot can count it a fluke. Taking the above mentioned 'shot in the dark", the favourites may be Valmint Gold Vaals Yogi
4.25: JUBILEE HACK CUP Of £300 and cup valued, at £2.1; 1% miles Hutana 9.4; White Rajah 8.13: Sehvyri 8.8; Veritable, Princess Val 5.7; Kilcash 8.4; Fox toon 8.1; Agog Racpata, Pern. Philemup, Tutor 7.7 This will probably come to m trial between White Rajah, Selwyn, Veritably Princess Val, Kil'cash, the improving Fox toon and Pern. The latter is likely but hardly war ants support on his performances. The leading division should include Kilcash Foxtoon White Rajah 5.10 WAIHO'J HANDICAP Pf £500; 6 fur Suleiman 9.12; lironwen 9.1: Maori Song 5.3; Lornacre, Corato. Orelio, Or we re 7.10; Silver Quex. 'Mympus 7.5; Trilliarc'i 7.2; Lex'"'i. Tosh, Mon Aero, l]"orr'c Moth -0. (Continue:! f;_ot next column)
Suleiman "won this event last j'enr and may he in the mood to repeat Hie dese. Bronwen is firming into second favourite place behind Orelio. Mao'i Song ran third last year but probab'y requires another race or two yet. Lornncre does not appeal and outside of Orelio anything could run seconfl or third. Most dangerous seems, to be Orwere. Lexden, Tosh and Bronze Molh. It is probable that punters will follow Orelio "Bronwen y Bronze Moth
