MAORI SOLDIERS' LEAVE

MAY ATTEND THE CENTENNIAL SUB-COMMITTEE'S REPRESENTATION With a view to having the local Maoris who have enlisted from the Matatua tribe present for the forthcoming Centennial celebrations on March 16th, the Maori Sub-commit-tee has taken steps to approach the Military authorities in an endeavour to co-incide the occasion, if possible .with their final leave. The question was fully discussed at the meeting of the committee last Monday evening, when several members stated that it was understood that leave to the troops would be given early in March. It was considered that such a gesture by the military authorities would be appreciated by the troops and the Maori people alike.
