TWO DAYS' GAOL

LABOURER CONVICTED i CONFINED FOR OWN GOOD "He can't keep away from drink —it gets into his system," said Sergeant M. Farrell in the Police Court yesterday when referring to Robert Malcolm Bailey, farm-hand, aged 30, who pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness. Sergeant Farrell added that accused was suffering from the effects, and in answer to Mr C. G. Lucas,. J.P., who was on the Bench, said it would be better for the accused if he were to be gaoled for a time in order to get over it. "I will convict you," said the Bench, "and for your own good, will order that you be kept in confinement for 48 hours."
