GLAMOUR BOYS

Australia's budding young diplomats are to be the glamour boys of the Commonwealth Public Service. Not only must they have educational qualifications which fit them for representing Australia in posts abroad, but they must also possess personality and charm. "A background of university training and a foreground of initiative, resources, commonsense and ability to make his presence known and respected," is the requirement of the Department of External Affairs from which the officers for overseas will be recruited. With three officers of the department. all young, departing soon, one to assist Mr Casey in his job as Australian Minister at Washington, and two to join the staff of the Australian High Commissioner in Canada, must be filled in 'he department. In addition to having university degrees and abilitj' as linguists, applicants must also possess the "kind of personality that will impress over seas people.
