Unusual Fish Stories It seems that in the stream at Hamurana the wild duck has learnt not only that there is safety but. also that a certain amount of food is to be expected from visitors. An angler at the week-end had two adventures with ducks in the locality. He had hooked a fish when the line became entangled round the legs of a duck. In the succeeding confusion, 'while the duck was noisily disentangling himself, the fish escaped. Needless to say. it was of unusual size. The second episode was more painful to the duck. It snapped at the cast ily and the hook pierced its tongue. The accident was so painful evidently that the duck was reeled in, offering very little resistance, and the hook extracted before serious injury was inflicted. When last seen by the angler the bird was disappearing over the lake, having evidently decided against further use of the Hamurana stream as a sanctuary.
