DISCOLOURED WATER
THE BOROUGH SUPPLY
RESULT OF HEAVY RAINS
Numerous complaints troni the ratepayers relative to the heavy discolouration of the borough water following the heavy rains have led to the Mayor Mr I?: S. Barry, making an explanation to the BEACON, in order that ratepayers will be under no misunderstanding. Mr Barry pointed out that a glance at the river and the huge.area of sen water which appeared as dark yellow at its effluence, should indicate to citizens the abnormal amount of midseason rain which had fallen. The water which was pumped from the river to the town reservoir on the hills was discoloured from its source and did not lose its characteristics until Ihe clay sediment had been allowed to settle ior a day oi two. The main discoloration however collected in the pipes during the night and could be easily over come by running the taos for a short period.
