DEATH OF WOMAN

FATALITY AT FOROPORO INQUEST CONCLUDED The inquest into the death of Mrs Xgamihi Arona Paora, aged 65, who was drowned at Poroporo early on Sunday morning; was opened before Mr G. A. Brabant, J.P., District Coroner, on -Monday afternoon. Reti Tanatu, an elderly woman, had her deposition read to her in Maori. In it she described how she saw the body lying in the water and called Tewera Horopapcra. T. Horopapcra was the next witness. He said that he had identified the body as being that of Mrs Ngamihi, who was his aunt. He had been informed at 6 a.m. on Sunday that she was lying in the creek. KV went to ihe creek and with the assistance of Steve Mita recovered the body. Constable R. A. A. Prater gave evidence and at this stage the inquest wa« adjourned. Resumed on 'Wednesday evening, Dr. F. J. Appleby deposed that he had examined the body Avhich had appeared to be healthy. It seemed to witness as if the woman had taken a seizure and died as she got into the water or shortly after. In witness' opinion the cause of death was heart failure, either before or as she hit the w*ater. The Coroner returned a verdict that deceased went to the creek with the intention of washing herself, was seized with heart failure, fell into the creek and was drowned.
