WHAT TO RECORD?

THE REPORTER'S PROBLEM HANDLING LOCAL BODY MEETINGS Local Body meetings present many problems for the reporter. First and foremost is that of how much or how little to record. Then to be sure of its accuracy. If an attempt is made to record all that is said someone is resentful: if too little is said then it is promptly Teamed that ihe situation lias not been fairly handled. Then there is that ever present reluctance on the. part of the newspaperman to turn down good 'copy', to reject something the reader looks for.. On the other hand is the alternative of recording the bare motions and amendments and decisions arrived at, but that would not fill the bill,, as it leaves everyone in doubt as to the views of individual Councillors or Committee-men on the matters under discussion. There may be a middle course, safe and satisfactory, but the mischief is to find it.
