PROTECTING INDUSTRY
POSTING OF WAR VOLUNTEERS ANSWER TO RECENT ARTICLE . The article which appeared in Friday's issue of the BEACON, relating to the posting of a liocal volunteer to the Reserved Occupation List, has had an interesting sequel. It has been pointed out that in an effort to protect the primary industries from being drained of workers, the Social Security Department has the power of diverting agricultural 'workers from the ranks of the volunteers Avho are held in a reserve list and where possible returned to the protected occupation of farming. From our informant it was learnt that all volunteers in the category of farm labourers are subject to this treatment as the Government feels it imperative at a time when the farmers are being called upon to produce more, to at least' see to it that experienced Avorkers are not sent overseas for military service.
