BATH FOR CHILDREN

PROPOSED POOL AT OHOPE FUNDS BEING COLLECTED Mr F.-Mahy Sen. r who initiated the proposal io construct a paddling pool at Ohope beach for the purpose of teaching the younger children to swim, has started the subscription list with £1.0. He has been seconded Iby his son Mr Gilbert Mahy who has doubled that figure and who is also a keen adherent. Mr F. Mahy is vigorously pushing the scheme and to date has collected no less than £27 10s 3d. His idea is to construct a pool whichr will be capable of providing ample space for instruction in swimming, and if possible minor races and carni.vals limited to children of a certain age. He claims that it is hiy* possible for toddlers to learn to swim in the sea, owing to the waves and maintains that as the water will of necessity be fresh, the children having learnt to swim there will have no difficulty in the sea. Mr .Mahy claims that the pool is more vita] and worthy of support than the suggested playground, as it will teach young New Zealanders the art of swimming which besides being one of the finest exercises is a useful safeguard to life. In the above connection it is the visitors to Ohope who "nave subscribed the greatest amount.
