GUIDE CAMP

SPECIAL TRAINING FOR LEADERS On January 16th, approximately I'2o young New Zealand women went into camp under canvas at Tauherenikau Racecourse, for a short period of training Cor services in time of National Emergency. The camp was originally planned to celebrate the Dominion's Centenary, and arrangements were well in hand to give 600 Dominion and Over seas Guides an unforgettable holiday, Avhen Avar was declaredSi nee then the camp has been reorganised on a more war-minded basis, Avith a view to training the older guides and leaders of companies in services Avhich Avill lie useful to their country as well as to tliemselves,, should they ever be called upon to play a more active-part in sending their country in time of war In England, the Guide training has proved a ready passport into any field of work.

To everyone of the Women's Auxiliary Services, Red Cross and A.R.P recruits who have had guide training arc welcomed for their efficiency, adaptability and sense of dis cipline. Here in New Zealand almost all camps arc regarded as a jollification for the young", and a time of discomfort and hard labour for everyone else. If the weather is unfavourable, misery for all.
