This will be. resumed from 3(it li inst. 112 yards of erushed metal and lines were spread from Ceorge Street to the borcugh boundary. This was a light top dressing averaging P'm. depth with a maximum of !2in. in isolated places. This road has carried very heavy traffic since L'Oth December and the result, combined with continued dry weather, has been that unravelling has taken place. This Healing or loose surface has been graded more frequently than at any previous holiday or oilier period and a reasonably good surface has been maintained. Fern and overhanging growth both sides of Seaview Road has been cleared. Cutting and clearing of grass on street sides was carried out. Some streets are being cut for the third time, the exceptional growth making it necessary to keep mower going continuously. Heads Park has been mown and cleared and playing area again mown. Refuse dump graded and levelled. Pedestrian crossings and centre traffic lines repainted. Shingle carted and a substantial concrete transformer station base built at sub-station fo ; - electrical department, and a number of pales concreted at base. Heads Park: Portion of new moulds have just come to hand and a start lias been made with the laying of kerb and channel. "Water Supply: Two new connections have been made. Many blowouts have occurred chiefly in Commerce Street and the Strand. Jn all cases sealed surfaces were damaged in effecting repairs to mains. Considerable maintenance work has been carried out on non-per-manent !y surfaced footpaths, Calfix repairs to streets and paths, grading, shingle carted and general. ENGINEER'S REPORT NEW STREET LIGHTS OPERATION OF PUMPING PLANT The following is the report of Mr F. W. Lysaght, Borough Electrical Engineer presented at the meeting jon Monday night:—■ Pole Replacements: The defective pole on the corner of The Civic build ing was replaced during the month. New Service Lines: The following new service lines have been erected during the month: 1 o-phasc service line in Stewart Street to supply range, hotwater and lighting; 1 3phasc service line in MeCarvey's Road to supply range and lighting; 1 single phase service in Alexandria Avenue to supply heating •and lighting: - 3~phase service line iii Hawera Street to supply range, hotwater and lighting; 1 3-phase service line in George Street to supply heating and lighting. New Secondary Lines: A short extension to the secondary lines in MeCarvey's Road has been carried out. New Installations: The following new installations have been inspected and connected to the supply also a number of alterations, additions and re-inspections: Ranges 8, hotwater and cylinders 7, lighting and heating 7. New Street Lights: The new street light has been erected in Francis Street as instructed by the council. Water "Works Department: The pumping plants have been in service every day during the month and are in fair order. Considerable running has been saved by the cutting oil' of the street water in The Strand. Buildings: The following building permits have been issued during the month: New residences 1, sheds 2, fowl house 1. Total 4. The value of these being £1000.
