SCOTS AROUSED—KILTS IN PERIL
Australia's Scottish Regiments may lose their kilts! The Military High Command is considering the placing of the mere trouscr upon the brawny Scottish leg. The pibroch is sounding indignantly throughout the clans in Australia. To demonstrate Scottish loyally to its national dress, the Sydney Scottish Regiment is preparing for its biggest parade during the Highland Gathering on New Year's Day. Members of the regiment frankly admit that the kilted uniform is one of the main reasons why the regiment has been able to attain full strength. Friction has developed between regimental units and the "Scottish" because of alleged "preference" to the latter, and because the Scottish dress requires a more valuable issue (Continued at foot of next column)
of clothing and accessories. But the main reason for the abandonment of the military kilt, it is recognised, is the risk of potential gas Avar fare. At the ceremonial parade at Aldershot of the Canadian contingent the band alone of the Toronto Scottish Regiment Avore kilts.
