DISTRICT MAIZE CROP
FLATTENED BY WIND HEAVY LOSS FEARED The wind iluiing the week-encl wrought havoc amongst the acres of new maize crops in the district. In practically, all cases they were flattened by the wind. Where they had not started to cob the crops stood up to the wind better but where the beads were heavy the plants trailed the ground. Farmers fear tWit unless the crops pick up, a heavy loss will result. The ground however has been heavily Avatered and Avitli Ihe promise of fine Aveather the mai.se may yet recuperate, though the setback must be reflected on the ultimate cr^p.
THE RAINFALL OVER TWO AND A HALF INCHES Measurement of the rain AA'hich fell during the course of the storm shoAV that the total Avas exactly 2.55 inches. Of this no less than 2.30 inches Avas recorded on Saturday night. The wind readied gale force in the early 0A T ening and sustained it throughout the night. So much sand Avas blown o(T Ohopc Beach that many of the shacks near the foreshore Avere covered AA'ith a regular blanket.
