BATHING SHEDS

Sir.—Outwardly a building worthy of the Centennial Park in which it stands and the borough and county of Whakatane which combined to furnish its construction, the men's bathing shed at the Heads, inside, is a contradiction. It seemed to me, when I saw the shed at the week-end that it will be necessary for the controlling authorities to appoint someone to the role of caretaker to act at those times when the shed is most in use. Treading underfoot . and littering the iloor with a kaleidoscopic effect was a mixed up mess of cigarette packets, confectionery papers, chew-ing-gum wrappers, match, boxes, cigarette paper packets, bread crusts orange peel and brown paper. Some of these things had a coating of sand, some were in a sodden state, and aU had an air of staleness. The appointment of someone in the vicinity to sweep out this ancL the ladies' shed is the natural stepi r for the authorities to take and the cost would be slight. It would take but a few minutes to clean the sheds each day, and a few shillings a week spent in this manner would be worth while. Yours etc, "BATHER.'*
