DRIEST YEAR ON RECORD

The following figures have been furnished by Mr H. Muscutt of King Street. Rain for December totalled 4.71 inches against 4.65 inches for the same month last year. The total for the year just closed, was '61.12 inches the driest year on record. The year 1931 has hitherto held the record with 39.67 inches. Compared with 1938 (65.64 inches) the difference in fall is arresting, while the wettest twelve months (1921 with 78.71 ihches) makes liie present years rainfall less thaa 50 per cent.
