COUNTY COUNCIL
LAST MEETING OF YEAR
GENERAL BUSINESS
The monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Council, held on Tuesday, was shorter than usual. The chairman, Mr C. L. Burnett, presided over Councillors A. ,F. McGougan, W. A. McCracken, H. C. McCready, R. F. Wardlaw, G. H. Cawte and F. J. Burt. The minutes of the ordinary meet ing of November 28th were confirmed and the Finance and General Purposes Committee's report Avas approved. At the conclusion of the meeting the chairman said: "This is the last meeting of the year and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for the co-operation you have given me during the eight months I have been chairman. I will take this opportunity, too, of wishing you all a Merry Christmas and prosperity in the future. We all, of course, are hoping for an early peace." "I am grateful, too, for the fact that the council has two capable executive officers in Mr C. H. Breb ner, County Engineer, and Mr C. G. Lucas, County Clerk." Mr Burnett said that he would like also to make a reference to the men in the armed forces, and said he was sure that the council would join with him in expressing thanks to those men for the work they were doing.
