RED CROSS SOCIETY'S ACTIVITIES
farewell to local soldiers
The Taneatua Branch of the lied Cross Society lias decided to give a public farewell in the Taneatua Hall to all of the local soldiers of the first echelon on Boxing night, Tuesday 2(ith December commencing at 8.30 p.m. A cordial invitation is al'so extended to any other soldiers on leave to attend the function. Mr Hayden and his Embassy Band have signified their willingness to provide the music for the evening Tree of charge and their generous oiler having been accepted the worthy object of the evening should be publicly appreciated and supported. WHAKATANE'S DILEMMA The work of the Taneatua lied Cross organisation in the above respect shames Whakatane, in view of the lateness of the movement which is now afoot. As it was the intention of making the evening of the 2fith the farewell night in Whakatane, tile question now arises as to whether or not the two groups should combine and take advantage of the Taneatua invitation to muster all the men there. If this should be done it must not be overlooked that the social at Taneatua is primarily a local one for Avhicli all arrangements have been made. Any Whakatane connection Avill therefore be purely subsidiary. This new aspect will no doubt be fully discussed at to-morrow evening's meeting.
