THE FOREMAN'S REPORT
SEALING LOVELOCK STREET
In his monthly report to the Wliakntane Borough Council the foreman Mr W. Henderson, .stated:—
After extensive grading in Lovelock Street, watering and rolling, the street was finally consolidated and a primer coat sprayed. A seal coat lias also been sprayed covered with half inch chips. Simila> work was also carried out on Soutar's Avenue intersection, north. Owing to inability to obtain amy road oil before the end of February an M.C.3 was substituted for thin work. Wainui, Hillcrest: Widening is con tinning. Fern, over-hanging trees and growth on both sides of the road to the borough boundary have been cut well back. It will again soon be necessary ot close this road during the day. Douglas Street path extension has been metalled with fines. The formation of Francis Street path to levels is in hand, 110 j'ards of coarse metal having been dumped and spread. Centennial Park has been topdressed with super, weak places reseeded and horse mower has cut rank grass. I would suggest that the Park dressing sheds and conveniences be locked at ■sunset each daj'. It also seems desirable that an honorary caretaker bo appointed. Several residents at the Heads have signified their willingness to oblige in this direction.
Playing area has been mowed and cleaned. Further supplies of metal have been quarried and crushed. The mowing of grass on street sides is being carried out.
Water Supply: Two new connections were in rule anil eight blowouts in mains have been repaired. The Salonika Street main has been extended by laying 270 feet of neweast main. Six connections are held up as no galvanised piping can 'on obtained to carry out the work. Water in Strand, channels lias been disconnected. A sot of steps and hand railing on the Ilillcrest path, which recently collapsed, has been rejjlaced with new material.
INSPECTOR'S REPORT WORK DURING MONTH The Borough Inspector, Mr M. Penny, reported as under:— Pound: Impounded in the Whakatane Pound. 3 cows and 5 heifers. The 3 cows and 3 heifers were released and the 2 remaining heifers were sold. Total 8 head. Cemetery: The usual work of clean ing and weeding paths has been carried out in the cemetery. Hedges: I have had quite a few hedges and hedges on corners of roads cut back. Traffic: On Friday, Bth inst, I was controlling traffic and everything svas in order.
