A GROWING SERVICE

MANY EXTENSIONS MADE

At the recent meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council the Electrical Engineer, Mi F. W. Lysaght, submitted the following report:

Main substation extensions: A start has been made with the necessary work in connection with the installation of the new 750 IvVA transformer switch gear, etc. This work will be carried out as a spare time job during the next few months

New Hinemoa Street Substation: The pole structure is now completed and is ready for the transformer, switch gear, etc. This job will be

carried out as soon as equipment is procurable.

Service Lines Maintenance: A num. bcr of service lines have been reconstructed during the month.

Pole Replacements: A number of defective poles have been replaced in the borough area during the past month. As a number of these defective poles are junction poles, considerable work is necessary in each case

Street Lighting: One new Mercury Vapour street lighting fitting has been erected in Commerce Street A number of the old fittings have been taken down, re-painted, rewired and again installed. I would like the permission of the council to re-erect the old fittings, taken down from Commerce Street, in Fran eis Street. New Service Lines: The following new service lines have been erected during the month: 5 3-phase lines in Francis Street to supply ranges, hot water and lighting, 1 single phase in Victoria Avenue to supply range and lighting, 1 3 jjliase on Hillcrest to supply range, hot water and lighting, 1 3 phase in Victoria Avenue to supply range, liotwater and lighting, 1 single phase in Domain Road to supply heating and lighting.

New Consumers etc: The following is a list of new consumers installations inspected and connected up to the council's supply, also a number of additions, alterations and re-inspections: Ranges 3, lighting 5, hotwater cylinders 3, motors 1. Water Works Department: The pumping plants have been in service every day during the month and are in fair order. A decrease in pumping hours has been noted since the restrictions were put on by the coun cil.

Building Permits: The following building permits have been issued during the month: New residences 2, additions to residences 1, garage extensions ], Avorkshop 1, shed 1. Total 6. The value of the above buildings amounted to £2254. Bejizine Tank Installation: One tank and pump installation was inspected during ,the month.
