Request for Donation. The New Zealand Territorial Association soliciting a donation from the Borough Council last Monday evening wrote reminding the council that this assumption was entirely wrong, and that £2 2s had been donated as recently as last May. Gr Brabant took strong exception to sending any money away in this connection, pointing out that the local association deserved recognition before those in other districts. The council was in full accord with Cr Brabant's opinion and the letter was received. State Forest Area. The latest Government Gazette announces the taking over for State forestry purposes of an area of approximately 18,000 acres in the Ro torua district. The area in question is south of Mamakuy and consists chiefly of native bush, which is at present being Avorked. It has been declared a "provisional" State forestry area for a number of years past» and the effect of tffce Gajietfte announcement is to render it a permanent State forest reservation.

Fated to be Sunk. Wool from the holds of the stranded Port Bowen was on board the illfated Doric Star, which has been reported sunk by enemy action, presumably in the South Atlantic. The Doric Star also had on board 111 casks of tallow from the Port Bowen. The tallow and 1917 bales of wool, which had been loaded on the Port Bowen in Australia, were transhipper from ilfVanganui to -Wellington by the cbastal vessel Breeze and Kapuni -and loaded oh: the Doric Star, which also loaded a cargo of frozen meat from New Plymouth before sailing for Australia.
