THE MAORIS SHARE
A keen and willing group of Pakehas and Maoris are now busily engaged in exploring the possibilities of staging a comprehensive and historical Maori pageant in connection with the forthcoming Centennial Celebrations. As a result of their efforts it is now thought possible to be able to stage on the occasion of the Whakatane festivities, a gathering of Maoris from all parts of the County and beyond, which will probably be the largest of its kind seen during the memorial celebrations. It is learnt from their delegates that the Maoris themselves are most enthusiastic to carry out the augmented programme, and will co-operate to the utmost in making the day a truly fitting one worthy of the important event it commemorates. Details of the actual programme, will we understand be released as soon as they are approved by the local Centennial Committee, but it is safe to say that should the programme some off, as planned the citizens of Whakatane will be treated to one of the finest Native tribal gatherings ever seen in the town.
