OBITUARY

MR DAVID TAYLOR

We regret t•> announce the death of Mr David Taylor, which occurred at the residence of his daughter* Mrs R. McNaughton, Kairua, Papamoa, on Monday at the age of years. The late Mr Taylor was bom at Drymen, Stirlingshire, Scotland, and educated at the Dumbarton Academy. At. the age of 22 he migrated to Australia and was for some time at Dookie College. Returning to Scotland he married, and. for a short time was farming in the Carse o'Gowrie. About 1595 he was a tenant on Sir Eyre Cooke's estate in the south of England. He then moved to the Midlands and farmed for a time near Cannock Chase. Afterwards he went into business as a contractor and coal merchant in Birmingham. In 1907 Mr Taylor came to New Zealand. He took a keen interest in the Tauranga Agricultural and Pastoral Show and was a member of the committee for some time. He was one of the prime movers in the formation of the original Bay of Plenty Scottish Society in 1912. For some years Mr Taylor was an elder of St. Peter's Presbyterian. Church, Tauranga. As a young man he was keenly interested in entymology being associated for some time with Miss Ormerod, an eminent entymologist. Mr Taylor leaves one daughter and four grandchildren. Early in 1933 while visiting his daughter, Mrs R. McNaughton, he had a stroke, from which he only partially recovered, having been practically confined to bed during the intervening years till he passed away.
