MONEY TALKS
Financial quotations concerning the Auckland Railway Handicap indicate that in the distance event there are at least 24 entrants have but little chance of victory, while in the sprint 21 of the 42 nominated are deemed to be rank outsiders. THE FAVOURITE DIVISION Present favourites for the Auckland Cup are Golden Sheila, Beaupartir, Llangollen and Old Bill, while for the much discussed Railway Handicap those in favour are Suleiman, Disdain, Our Jean, Arvakur and Orelio. STABLE MATES At the recent Auckland meeting the principal sprint event was won by Mr T. Impey's Arvakur, while the stable companion, Orelio, could not be started owing to having received a knock on a fore I'eg. He has made a quick recovery, and it would not be at all in the nature of a surprise if the runner-up in the Great Northern Guineas is the stable selection for the Railway Handicap. CATALOGUE & BEAUPARTIR Two of the Auckland Cup entrants Catalogue and Beaupartir are trained at Awapuni by Mrs Alan McDonald, and it is reported that the stable may placc most reliance on the chances of the Beau Pere representative. Catalogue won £950 during his recent Australian trip, bring ing his total to £12,000. ANOTHER TRAINER Maurice O'Connor, of the Hauraki Plains, has relinquished his amateur status as a rider, and has taken out a trainer's license. He Avill be located at Ellerslie where there are facilities for the preparation of jumpers. O'Connor has just re-com-missioned Baldric, who has been indulged in a lengthy spell. q YOURS TRULY SOLD The price paid by a Sydney sportsman for the New Zealand Cup winner, Yours Truly, is reported to have been £1000 with certain contingencies in respect to his first two wins in Australia. The Siegfried representative arrived in Sydne3 r on Wednesday last, after a decidedly rough trip over the Tasman. ROYAL CHIEF'S PROGRAMME It is understood that Royal Chief will not be raced at the Auckland or Wellington meetings, but may be treated to another Australian trip for autumn events in which he will not have to meet either Ajax or Defaulter. SUCCESS IN PROSPECT The Te Awamutu stable presided over by Alex Cook lias not been in the limelight recently, but with the aid of Suleiman, Te Talcina and Belle Femme it is confidently expect ed that better times are coming. Suleiman ranks as one of the best sprinters in the land, and one well up to weight. He will be ridden in the Railway Handicap by E. A. Keesing. CAPABLE RIDERS The Canterbury horseman, A. E. Ellis is to have the mounts on Beau Vite and Amigo at the Auckland summer meeting. L. J. Ellis will also attend the fixture, and will be riding at Te Awamutu on Saturday on his way to the Queen City. PLENTY OF WEIGHT Although she will be burdened with her full complement of weight Golden Sheila "9.12 is to take her place in the Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday, and is likely to lie well in the fighting line in the dash to tlx:? winning post.
