BOY SCOUTS
WHAKATANE TROOP NOTES
! Enthusiasm was everywhere evident among the local scouts as the, plans for the annual district camp to be held in AVellington this year were made known to the troop last Monday night. It is expected that some 18 boys will be fortunate enough to be able to go, while for those that through necessity will Have to remain at home Ave hope that some provision will be made so that aTI may share in this important phase of scouting. Application and parents consent forms have been given out and these with the deposit must be returned to the scoutmaster not later than December 23rd.
There arc 14 scouts now' working towards their second class badge. The S.M. lectured the class in the preparation of the various forms of fires with reference to cooking. The history of fire-lighting and types of draught systems were dealt with and next week camp cooking will be the subject for explanation so that the boys may have at least a theoretical knowledge prior to the practical application at camp.
Baseball according to Canadian rules has been commenced as one of the troop's activities. Although a little puzzled at first, the boys soon overcame their difficulties as have two teams that play each Tuesday at the Domain. If there are any other boys in Whakatane that are interested in baseball they will be heartily welcome on any Tuesday at 3.30 at the Domain. * * «s 9 During this Christmas season excellent opportunity is given to the scouts to put the Third Scout Law Into further practice. "A Scout's duty is to be useful and to help others." Ever keep this In mind, act whenever the occasion, arises and you will do well.
