SEASON'S GREETINGS

GOOD WISHES EXCHANGED

COUNCIL'S LAST MEETING

The usual exchange of seasonal greetings took place at the last meeting-of the Borough Council for the present year on Monday evening. The 'Mayor extended the best wishes to the councillors, thanking one and all for their co-operation and support throughout the year. He emphasised the friendly way in which all had worked together and said that he did not believe in tying members down hard and fast to standing orders. Much better and friendlier results were achieved by a general round the table discussion, as it was then possible to see what everybody wanted.

He wished all a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Cr Shapley, the deputy mayor, replied thanking the Mayor for his remarks which were deeply appreciated. It had been a pleasure to sit under Mr Barry's mayorship and he had to congratulate him on the able manner he had controlled meetings throughout the year. On behalf of the council he extended the best wishes for the season to both Mr and Mrs Barry.

A pleasant informal gathering then took place, councillors, officials and the press partaking in a light supper and refreshments in the course of which the following toasl list was honoured:

The King, Mayor and Mayoress, Cr S. S. Shapley, reply His Worship the Mayor. Finance Committee. Cr W. Sullivan, reply Cr C. G. Caisley. Works Committee, Cr H. W. Brabant, reply Cr S. S. Shaplfcy. Staff, His Worship the Mayor, reply Town Clerk, Foreman, Electrical Engineer, Inspector. The Ladies, Cr A. J. Canning, reply Cr A. Hall. The Press, Cr Armstrong, reply Mr King-sley-Smith.
