SEVERAL LETTERS IN ONE ENVELOPE

Within recent weeks it has com.* under the notice of the postal authorities that some members c>f the public are adopting the practice of sending in one envelope, intended for an overseas destination, letters addressed to a number of persons. This it is stated, has been noticed particularly in respect of letters sent by air to the United Kingdom. Such letters, when detected, are surcharged double the deficiency in postage rates, which means that a person in England who receives a letter posted in one envelope with a number of oihers, is required to pay 3s on the receipt of each unauthorised enclosure, presuming the letter has been sent by air.
